Kids Are Smoke Free Zones

Secondhand Smoke

Do you live with a smoker?

Make a promise to protect others from the dangers of secondhand smoke, especially children.

Smokers can make a difference too!

"Know" the facts

  • Secondhand smoke is much more toxic than the smoke inhaled by smokers directly from a cigarette, cigar, or pipe.
  • Secondhand smoke is a known human cancer causing agent.
  • There is no safe level of exposure to second-hand smoke.
  • It takes three hours for the smoke of a single cigarette to clear from an average sized room. Hazardous substances from more concentrated secondhand smoke can be present much longer.
  • Kids who are exposed to secondhand smoke while riding in the car are twice as likely to develop asthma.

"Know" how to create smoke-free zones

  • Make your home smoke-free! The simplest and most effective solution is No Smoking in any enclosed indoor area including cars.
  • "Know" smoking policies at daycares, businesses, community centers, friend's homes, and schools to guarantee a smoke-free environment for loved ones, especially children.

In the "Know"

Secondhand smoke is a known cause of sudden infant death syndrome.

As a smoker or nonsmoker, you can protect the health and well-being of children and reduce their risk of exposure to the toxins in secondhand smoke.
